Austin, TX – The heartbroken mother of a young man shot dead in his apartment in Northwest Austin is reaching out to the public, seeking any assistance to help identify and catch the perpetrator of her son’s death. Issuing an emotional appeal, Jessica Valdez highlighted the gravity of the crime, saying, “They took away somebody very special, my son Matthew Torres, was only good to everybody.”
Torres, a 25-year-old who was described as “the kind of man that we needed in this world,” was tragically killed in his apartment complex off U.S. 183 and Copper Creek the preceding Friday. The apartment complex has been sealed off by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office as new evidence is being gathered at the crime scene in hopes of bringing his killer to justice.
A week following Torres’ death, detectives returned to the crime scene, combing the area for any missable clues that could potentially identify the shooter. The authorities, who have been diligent in their efforts, have distributed over 300 flyers in the neighborhood and interviewed countless potential witnesses.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office is now urging the public to step forward with any information, no matter how small or significant. The victim’s mother urged, “If you know anything, seen anything, heard anything, know anyone, please come forward, let someone know. My son deserves justice.”
The sheriff’s office has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, underlining their belief that this was an isolated incident. However, this assurance is not averting their dogged pursuit of justice for Torres and his grieving family.
Incentivizing potential informants, the sheriff’s office has announced that a cash reward may be offered for a tip that aids in solving this case. As the law enforcement continues its investigation, the community stands in solidarity with the victim’s family, hoping for a swift resolution.
