Music Conference and Weeklong Party Lights Up Black Austin in its 28th Year

Austin’s African-American Community Celebrates Culture and Music

A week that ranges from professional development to jovial entertainment, Jump On It Week Music Conference & Social Media Interactive, an annual event that shines a spotlight on the rich and diverse black culture in Austin, is set to occur June 2-9, 2024. The weeklong affair includes activities across different venues in Austin and attracts locals and visitors alike, while also bolstering much-needed revenue for the city’s tourism industry.

More Than Just a Celebration

As Jump On It’s operations director, Breanna Byrd, stated, the week event is not just a celebration of black culture, but also a heartfelt tribute to Austin’s lively spirit and inclusive community. The conference is teeming with a diverse mix of discussions, performances, and opportunities to connect with other attendees. The lineup includes concerts with more than 10 new artists, engaging community panels and forums, a lively youth party and showcase, and several fun-filled activities like sports and food fests.

The Weeklong Festivity Breakdown

The itinerary for the upcoming event is as diverse as it is exciting:

  1. June 2: Hood Day – An awards ceremony followed by an after-party.
  2. June 3: Black Embassy Day – A day of community discussions.
  3. June 4: JOI University Day – A day dedicated to youth programs.
  4. June 5: Community Day – A fun-filled day with free barbecues, a basketball tournament, skating, bowling, and more.
  5. June 6: She A Pro Day – The sixth day is focused on women-centric programming.
  6. June 7-9: The Fat Gator Weekend – The final three days are packed with industry panels, celebrity basketball games, lake festivals, car shows, boat parties, and more.

Established in 1997, Jump On It Music Conference has a rich history and has been a cornerstone of Austin’s African-American community for more than a quarter-century.
