Austin Welcomes Exciting New Flight Routes in 2025!

The bustling city of Austin is gearing up for an exciting wave of travel options as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) announces a fantastic addition of fourteen new routes set to launch in 2025! This expansion includes a mix of both seasonal and year-round flights, which is sure to delight travelers looking to explore new destinations.

Soon to Soar to New Orleans!

First up, Delta Air Lines is set to kick off a nonstop route to the vibrant city of New Orleans on February 27, 2025. Currently, Southwest Airlines is the only airline running this route since American Airlines had to cancel their service last October. So, travelers eager for some Cajun cuisine and jazz music will soon have a convenient option!

March Madness of New Routes

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, March is shaping up to be a busy month with four new routes taking flight starting on March 6, 2025! Frontier Airlines will unveil flights to both Chicago O’Hare and Orlando, catering to those craving a city getaway or a splash at Disney. Meanwhile, Southwest Airlines will launch routes to Milwaukee and Reno. It’s worth noting that American Airlines had also cut their route to Reno last August, so travelers can expect new adventures ahead!

Florida Calling

On March 9, Delta will add nonstop service to beautiful Panama City, Florida. Just in time for spring break, this route will surely be a hit among sun-seekers!

May Brings More Options

Don’t put away your calendar just yet! On May 7, 2025, Delta is going to introduce three more routes to Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Memphis. The latter two are exciting as they come in after American Airlines discontinued their flights in January 2024. On May 11, international travelers can get excited as Canadian airline WestJet joins the scene, providing the first direct connection to Vancouver.

Summer and Beyond

As summer arrives, Delta won’t be slowing down. They will launch routes to San Francisco and Tampa starting June 8, 2025. Hot on Delta’s heels, Southwest Airlines will start their flights to San Francisco on August 5, 2025. Whether it’s a business trip or a family vacation, there’s something for everyone!

Looking Ahead

Airport officials are keen to expand even further. Their sights are set on adding more international routes, including popular destinations in Asia, South America, and Europe. This includes eagerly awaited connections to cities like Amsterdam, Beijing, Dublin, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Though Norwegian Air unfortunately canceled their planned Paris route due to the pandemic, KLM has successfully started flights to Amsterdam since March 2022!

Changes in the Sky

As we move into 2025, some changes are also happening as certain routes will be discontinued. American Airlines will stop service to Santa Ana, California on January 5, while Hawaiian Airlines will stop their flights to Honolulu on March 26. Additionally, JetBlue’s seasonal route to New York’s JFK Airport won’t be returning next summer, and Allegiant Air will cease operations at AUS on January 7, 2025.

The Delta Surge

Delta is making a big splash in Austin, having accounted for an impressive 14.5% of all passenger traffic between January and July 2024. Interestingly, they saw a whopping 23.5% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year, welcoming around 1.8 million travelers!

With all these new routes and exciting opportunities for travel in the coming year, it looks like Austin is becoming an even more vibrant hub for travelers. Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to pack those bags!
