Austin’s New Sushi Sensation: Aburi Oshi Sushi Set to Open This Fall

Austin Welcomes New Sushi Spot: Aburi Oshi Sushi

This fall, the city of Austin is set to become the home of a new dining experience, as Aburi Hana, a Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant from Canada, is opening its first American location. The new restaurant, called Aburi Oshi Sushi, is scheduled to open for takeout and delivery on September 20, in the Cloud Kitchen’s 5610 Food Co. at 5610 North I-35.

A Fresh Concept in Sushi

Aburi Oshi Sushi will bring two unique styles of sushi to Austin: aburi and oshi. The aburi style involves lightly searing the fish, while the oshi method refers to sushi that is pressed. This new spot promises to introduce locals to some exciting dishes, including its signature creation—the Aburi Salmon Oshi. This popular dish features sockeye salmon, a sweet-savory miku sauce, jalapeños, and a dash of black pepper.

Additionally, Aburi Oshi Sushi will offer an exclusive dish tailored just for Austin: the Aburi Yellowtail Oshi. This dish combines tender yellowtail fish with cilantro, avocado sauce, and serrano pepper, promising a fresh twist for sushi enthusiasts in the area.

More Than Just Sushi

The menu at Aburi Oshi Sushi will not stop at just oshi sushi. Guests can also look forward to a variety of tempting options, including temaki (hand rolls), different types of sushi rolls, and appetizers like miso soup and edamame. With such a wide selection, the restaurant aims to cater to different tastes and preferences, ensuring a delightful experience for all.

A Strong Culinary Background

The culinary vision of Aburi Oshi Sushi will be led by corporate chef Kazuki Uchigoshi. The restaurant is part of the larger Aburi Restaurants group, which boasts a rich history of success in Japan and Canada. The company’s founder, Seigo Nakamura, first opened a restaurant in Japan called Sushi Tora back in 1996 and has since expanded his reach across multiple locations. His focus has always been on delivering high-quality, aburi-style sushi.

After moving to Canada in 2008, Nakamura opened Miku Vancouver, along with several other restaurants on the West Coast, including a bagelry and a casual dining spot called Minami. The company further expanded to Toronto, where it includes a range of restaurants like Aburi Hana, which was awarded a Michelin star in 2022 and maintained the honor in 2023. Miku Vancouver also received recognition as a Michelin-recommended restaurant.

Takeout and Delivery Services

Aburi Oshi Sushi will operate under a takeout-only model, with hours set from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Customers can easily place their orders online for takeout or delivery. While the main focus is on convenience, there will also be outdoor dine-in options for those who want to enjoy their meals outside.

In Summary

With its unique take on sushi and a touch of Michelin-star quality, Aburi Oshi Sushi is sure to create a buzz in Austin’s food scene. Locals can look forward to trying out the flavorful creations that only this new restaurant can offer, making it a must-visit destination for sushi lovers this fall.
