In Fort Worth, high school football is in full swing, and the North Crowley Panthers have been making waves recently. After taking down the highly-touted DeSoto Eagles—who were ranked No. 1 in the state—the Panthers have entered the spotlight with their impressive 3-0 record. The game held last week saw the Panthers triumph with a score of 49-28, showcasing their strength and determination.
We caught up with North Crowley head coach Ray Gates, who couldn’t be more excited about the team’s performance. “It was a huge win for us. DeSoto has a rich football tradition, and beating them definitely boosts our confidence,” he stated. Gates has taken on the challenging yet rewarding task of building up the football program at North Crowley, and it’s clear that his efforts are paying off.
“We’ve got a great group of kids who work hard every practice,” Gates remarked. The enthusiasm among the players is palpable, and they are hungry for more victories. Coach Gates emphasized the importance of maintaining this momentum throughout the season. “Every week is a new challenge, and we’re gearing up to face tougher opponents. We just have to stay focused and keep improving,” he added.
One notable aspect of the North Crowley Panthers isn’t just their victories on the field; it’s also what they wear. The team sports helmets prominently featuring the 817 area code, a nod to their home area. “We wanted to show pride for our community. The 817 is more than just a number to us; it’s our identity,” Gates said with passion. It’s become a rallying cry for the team, signifying their commitment to representing their hometown as they battle it out on the football field.
In the latest high school football rankings by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine, the North Crowley Panthers currently hold the No. 3 spot in Class 6A, a major leap considering they’ve climbed through competition. This comes after dominant performances against teams like Denton Guyer and the aforementioned DeSoto Eagles.
Other notable teams in the rankings include Duncanville at No. 1, which has maintained a strong position after beating formidable opponents, and Galena Park North Shore at No. 2, also boasting an impressive record.
As the season continues, the energy around North Crowley is buzzing. Players and fans alike are optimistic about what lies ahead. The Wells’ Clan, a family that’s been ardent supporters, say, “It’s a great time to be a Panthers fan! We’ve never felt this good about our team!”
Looking ahead, the Panthers are focusing on the upcoming matches, aiming to maintain their undefeated streak. As they prepare to face Humble Summer Creek next week, all eyes are on the exciting potential of this young team. Gates acknowledges that challenges await, but he believes in his team wholeheartedly.
“We take it one game at a time. Our goal is always to improve and to keep pushing the limits of what we can achieve,” he said. And with the spirit of the 817 echoing through every practice and game, there’s a palpable sense of encouragement flowing through the community ready to cheer for their Panthers.
As the atmosphere in Fort Worth heightens with football fever, fans can’t wait to see how this season unfolds. With Coach Gates at the helm and the heart of the 817 area code emblazoned on their helmets, the North Crowley Panthers are indeed a force to be reckoned with.
