New York City Bar ‘Mother’s Ruin’ Set to Expand into Austin

The vibrant city of Austin, renowned for its flourishing live music and diverse culture, welcomes a brand-new addition to its dynamic food and beverage scene this fall. The famed New York City neighborhood bar, Mother’s Ruin, has officially confirmed its expansion into Austin. The new bar is set to be part of the sprawling mixed-use development, Centro, located at 1401 East Sixth Street, Building A, Suite 204, in the East Cesar Chavez neighborhood.

What to Expect From Mother’s Ruin Austin?

Mother’s Ruin is celebrated for its unique marriage of a laid-back dive bar ambiance and the sophistication of a classic cocktail bar. Patrons can expect an exciting range of drinks including a tantalizing bourbon-infused frozen slushie, a selection of innovative house cocktails, pickleback shots, local Austin Eastciders, beers, and wines.

Mother’s Ruin also promises to bring cocktails inspired by East Sixth/Austin/Texas culture and flavors, staying true to the local character. The term ‘Mother’s Ruin’, which comes from the British nickname for gin, adds an interesting twist to its persona.

What’s on the Menu?

The versatile food menu comprises a blend of American and New American dishes. Some of its signature dishes include waffle fries dusted with Old Bay seasoning, sumptuous cheeseburgers, hot sauce-honey chicken wings, and a delightful selection of breakfast burritos, among other offerings. A specially curated daily brunch with crispy spicy chicken and waffles, bacon-egg-cheese sandwiches, and French toast sticks also awaits Austin food lovers.

A Legacy of Expansion

The creative minds behind the bar, co-founders Richard Knapp and TJ Lynch, brought the original Mother’s Ruin to life in Manhattan in 2011. Since then, the brand has successfully expanded into Nashville at the end of 2019, followed by Chicago in 2022.

It’s important to note that Mother’s Ruin isn’t the only New York-based cocktail bar carving its name in the Austin bar scene. Another retro-styled bar named the Flower Shop is also slated to open its doors at East Seventh — the former Wilder Wood space — sometime in the summer of 2024.

In conclusion, the upcoming opening of Mother’s Ruin is sure to enrich Austin’s dining and nightlife landscape, offering locals and tourists thrilling new opportunities for gastronomic indulgence and enjoyment.
