The bustling city of Austin has much to anticipate this fall as the acclaimed pastry chef and baker Amanda Rockman plans to open her very own establishment. Set to make its mark in the Holly neighborhood at 2400 East Cesar Chavez Street, Suite 200, Rockman’s eponymous venture, Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop, will undoubtedly become a culinary destination for all who cherish scrumptious baked goods and caffeinated delights.
In line with its motto “Caffeine, Gluten, Sugar, Butter, Booze,” the bakery aims to serve a diverse array of treats that are bound to tantalize the taste buds. For the sweet and savory lover, they can look out for croissants in an array of tantalizing flavors like plain, ham-cheese-mustard-churro, and lemon meringue. Cookie aficionados should prepare for the divine taste of halva chocolate chip, and the nostalgic peanut butter and jelly.
For those favoring more savory items, Rockman’s bakery will also serve scrumptious focaccia sandwiches bursting with flavor, such as burrata, pesto, and prosciutto or the honeyed goat cheese with roasted tomatoes and green olives.
And that’s not all! There are also bagel options in plain, sesame, and cinnamon-sugar to be paired with delectable schmears like French onion dip or New York City cheesecake.
For those seeking an accompanying beverage with their baked goods, Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop plans to carry coffee from the Philadelphia-based roaster La Colombe, laced with house-made syrups, selection of teas and a myriad of cocktails such as a shandy, micheladas, and house specials. There will also be a variety of non-alcoholic options including lemonades, canned cherry soda, and bottled water.
Reworking a former office space, the counter-service bakery is being designed by Rockman herself and architect Bengie Daniels of Latitude Architects. It will feature indoor seating with bars, high-tops, a lounge, and tables, along with a pickup window for convenience. The baking kitchen will also be visible to diners, offering a sneak peek into the magic behind the scenes.
To create a distinctive sensory atmosphere, Rockman plans to fill her bakery with sounds from grunge music from the 1990s as well as alt-rock and indie rock bands. Expect to hear tunes from Nirvana, early No Doubt and other similar acts as you indulge in the bakery’s mouthwatering offerings.
Rockman’s experience in the culinary world spans from Texas to San Francisco, Austin, and Chicago. Her triumphant past in prestigious establishments in Austin and Chicago and her hard-fought victory in beating celebrity chef Bobby Flay on his show Beat Bobby Flay in 2018, serve as a testament to her prowess and skill in the field. Now returning to Austin, her home state, Rockman embodies the spirit of Texas and is ready to make her own mark in the city’s culinary landscape with her latest venture, Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop.
