Fatal Shooting Incident at SE Austin Bar Leaves One Dead, Suspect at Large

Suspect at Large After Fatal Shooting of Ex-Girlfriend’s New Partner Outside SE Austin Bar

A horrible incident of brutality occurred in Southeast Austin early Friday, May 3. The authorities are on high alert, searching for a suspect linked to a fatal shooting tragedy outside a local bar. The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Cesar Alejandro Marquez who allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend’s new beau.

The Deadly Encounter

Jose Luis Mejia-Sorto, 35, the current boyfriend of Marquez’s ex-girlfriend, was found in the parking lot of the Cantina Guerrero Bar located at 5611 S. US Highway 183 Northbound. According to the witnesses, Marquez had a heated argument with Mejia-Sorto and his girlfriend inside the bar. Post the altercation, Marquez allegedly followed Mejia-Sorto outside to his truck.

A witness recalls hearing Marquez hurl obscenities before shooting Mejia-Sorto twice, causing him to collapse. Marquez allegedly continued to fire at the prone victim before making a getaway in a white pickup truck.

Statement from the Authorities

According to court documents, the police responded to a 911 call at around 12:24 a.m. and discovered Mejia-Sorto already lifeless, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. The medical team, arriving at the crime scene, declared him dead at 12:39 a.m. A subsequent autopsy confirmed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds, with the leg, face, torso, and head affected. A total of seven projectiles were recovered from his body, with four lodged in the victim’s head.

Suspect Details

Marquez, a former three-year partner of the victim’s girlfriend, was identified by witnesses and his roommate. He has a wax-sealed criminal history and is believed to be on the run in a white 2023 pickup truck equipped with a toolbox and bed cover.

Investigation Underway, Public Assistance Sought

The authorities have since issued a warrant for Marquez’s arrest, charging him with murder, a first-degree felony. As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are urging anybody with information about the suspect’s location to come forward and help in his apprehension.
