AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department (APD) is actively searching for suspects involved in a recent shooting at a southeast Austin apartment complex. The incident occurred on Monday, September 9, around 10:30 PM in the 5300 block of Jimmy Clay Drive.

According to police reports, officers responded to a call about shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, APD and medics from Austin-Travis County EMS found a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, where it was confirmed that their injuries were not life-threatening.

Detectives investigating the case determined that the situation began when a suspect knocked on the victim’s door. Minutes later, a second suspect managed to break into the apartment. As this second suspect entered the apartment, the victim fired multiple shots in their direction. The second suspect, who was armed, returned fire, resulting in the victim being hit.

Suspect Description and Video Evidence

APD has released doorbell camera footage capturing parts of the incident. The footage shows a male suspect described as a Hispanic man, wearing a hat along with a short sleeve t-shirt and pants. He is noted to have a distinct tattoo on his left elbow.

Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, potentially in a white car. APD is requesting assistance from the public for any information that could lead to the identification and capture of the suspects involved.
