Austin Sets to Welcome Southwest Seasonal Flights on Previously Allegiant-Operated Route

AUSTIN, Texas

– Southwest Airlines has unveiled plans to initiate seasonal nonstop service between Austin, Texas and Omaha, Nebraska starting this November, an airline representative confirmed recently. The announcement follows the revelation that Allegiant Air, the current operator of the Austin-Omaha route, intends to cut this and some other routes as part of a comprehensive base closure.

Switch from Allegiant to Southwest

Allegiant Air provided no specific end date for their current services on the Austin-Omaha route but revealed that the staff and airplane base will cease to function from January. In the interim, Southwest Airlines plans to operate the route selectively on Saturdays in November, December, January, and a few weeks in February and March. The flight schedules up until March 5, 2025, have been made available.

Southwest’s Dynamic Changes

According to a Southwest Airlines spokesperson, their network planning team continues to adapt the flight schedule to match the evolving demand and preferences of their customers.

Expansion in Austin and Cancellation of Flights

The proposed Omaha route marks Southwest’s third new nonstop from Austin in the current year. Earlier this year, in March, Southwest initiated service to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Following this, in June, the airline began service to Boston. Despite this expansion, Southwest also decided to cancel one of its Austin-born routes this year — the flights to Cozumel, Mexico ceased earlier this month.
