Southwest Expands Austin-Based Routes with Two New Nonstops

Two New Nonstop Routes to Take Off from Austin in March 2025

In a significant expansion move, Southwest Airlines announced the launching of two new nonstop routes from Austin in March 2025. The new frontline destinations to be served by the popular carrier include the cities of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Reno, Nevada.

New Service Adds to Austin’s Growing Travel Convenience

As per the airlines’ official statement, these fresh services are slated to begin operations from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on March 6, 2025. The Austin-Milwaukee route is set to operate on a year-round basis each weekday, increasing travel convenience for passengers headed to Wisconsin’s largest city. On the other hand, the Austin-Reno route will be seasonal and less frequent.

Milwaukee and Reno: A Much-Awaited Addition to Austin’s Air Network

This expansion marks a significant milestone in Austin’s air traffic growth. As the largest domestic market without a nonstop service from Austin, Milwaukee’s addition to the airport’s network addresses a crucial travel demand. Meanwhile, the Reno route, presently served by American Airlines, will be a new offering for Southwest from Austin.

Apart from these two new routes, Southwest Airlines also plans to resume seasonal services to Panama City, Florida; Montrose, Colorado; and San Juan, Puerto Rico, come March.

Southwest’s Growing Footprint in Austin

According to Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Southwest’s continuous expansion in Austin is a testament to the airline’s commitment to enhancing travel convenience for Austin residents. Upon the establishment of the new routes, the airline is expected to offer up to 125 daily nonstop flights from AUS at its peak service level. Southwest, the leading airline at AUS in terms of passenger traffic, shows a year-over-year growth of about 10% in passenger totals, marking a strong rebound from the impacts of the global pandemic situation.
