Mark your calendars, folks! On February 6, 2025, the vibrant city of Brownsville is gearing up for an exhilarating event that promises to spotlight the incredible talent and innovation blossoming right in our backyard. The Startup Texas Pitch Fest kicks off at 5 p.m. at the eBridge Center for Business and Commercialization, located at 1304 E. Adams St. This isn’t just any ordinary gathering; it’s a showcase of local entrepreneurs ready to pitch their brilliant business ideas live!
This event is brought to life through a fantastic collaboration between the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Center (ECC). Together, they’re creating an environment where local business-minded individuals can not only showcase their innovations but also connect with potential investors, seasoned business leaders, and engaged community members. It’s where ideas meet opportunity!
What’s more, attendees can look forward to enjoying delicious local food and music during the Pitch Fest! It’s not just about business; it’s about bringing people together, celebrating our community, and having a great time while we’re at it. The festivities include a community choice award, where you, the audience, will have the power to vote for the best pitch of the evening. Your opinion truly matters!
This year’s Pitch Fest is extra special. For the first time, every graduate of the newly redesigned Startup Texas Accelerator program is eligible for advancement funding. This means that the winners can utilize funds to pursue patents, develop prototypes, and work on scaling their businesses right here in Brownsville. Say goodbye to cash prizes from prior events; this funding approach is all about fostering sustainable growth.
The enthusiasm doesn’t stop there. In November 2023, the BCIC received a generous $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA). This funding is set to expand the Startup Texas program over the next three years, introducing enhanced resources that will significantly benefit our local entrepreneurs. The upcoming Pitch Fest will feature graduates from the first cohort to complete this revamped program, setting the stage for some thrilling business pitches!
The Startup Texas Pitch Fest is open for everyone to attend, and the best part? Admission is free! However, make sure to register beforehand to secure your spot.
