Teddy’s Restaurant Set to Open in Rosedale, Austin
Austin residents have something to look forward to this fall as the team behind Bill’s Oyster is expanding their culinary footprint with the opening of a new restaurant called Teddy’s. This casual Southwestern grill and bar will be located in the Rosedale neighborhood at 1601 West 38th Street, Suite 1. The new spot is set to welcome hungry diners in November.
A New Taste of the Southwest
Teddy’s will focus on Southwestern cuisine, which is a unique blend of food styles found in the Southwest region of the United States. This cuisine incorporates elements from Indigenous and Mexican cooking, along with some American twists. Diners can expect an array of flavors featuring ingredients like chiles, blue corn, beans, and squash.
Executive chef Rene Garza will be at the helm of Teddy’s kitchen. Garza brings a wealth of experience to the team, having previously served as the chef de cuisine at the East Austin restaurant Uptown Sports Club and worked at other popular establishments like Este and Suerte. Some of the dishes that guests can look forward to include classic Texas red chili served with a giant bone marrow, filet mignon with chile relleno, and Parker house rolls accompanied by cinnamon-ancho chile butter. Also featured on the menu will be blue crab tostadas and more.
Drinks and Dining Experience
The bar at Teddy’s is set to offer a variety of drinks, including unique cocktails like the Valentina michelada and the Lone Starr martini. The drink selection will also include wines and refreshing frozen cocktails, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Co-owners Daniel Berg and Dylan Salisbury, who opened Bill’s Oyster in May 2023, are excited about this latest endeavor. The restaurant is named after Berg’s second son, whose nickname is Teddy. This personal touch adds to the inviting atmosphere the team aims to create.
A Cozy Atmosphere
Inside, Teddy’s will feature comfortable seating arrangements along with an enclosed patio. The ambiance will be enhanced by the use of lots of dark wood and a striking copper bar. This cozy setting is sure to attract diners looking for a warm and friendly place to enjoy a meal.
What Happened to Spread & Co?
Teddy’s will be taking over the space that was previously home to Spread & Co, a cheese and sandwich café. The original co-owners, Rosemary and Austin Ewald, decided not to renew their lease and will relocate their business to Cherrywood, where they plan to reopen this fall.
Serving Hours
Initially, Teddy’s will open for dinner, with plans to gradually include lunch, breakfast, and weekend brunch in the future. This phased approach will give the new restaurant the chance to settle in and perfect its offerings.
Another Teddy’s in Town
It’s worth noting that Austin will soon have another venue named Teddy’s. A cocktail bar called Teddy’s is set to open in Cherrywood, courtesy of the team behind Love Supreme pizza. This bar is expected to open in October and promises to offer its own unique flavor and vibe.
As Teddy’s gets ready to open its doors, it marks an exciting addition to Austin’s ever-evolving food scene, providing residents with even more options for casual dining and fresh flavors.
