Since 2015, Texas has welcomed over 2.5 million new jobs, adding up to a whopping total of 14,318,700 nonfarm jobs by the end of December 2024. What a feat! San Angelo has been showing progress as its unemployment dipped to 3.2%, down from 3.8% just a month before. Although, it’s worth noting that this reflects an increase compared to the 2.9% rate from December 2023. Meanwhile, the Midland Metropolitan Statistical Area is shining bright with the lowest unemployment rate in Texas at an outstanding 2.4%. Amarillo and College Station-Bryan are not far behind, boasting rates of 2.6% and 2.7%, respectively.
Several key sectors are fueling this impressive job growth. Leading the pack is the Professional and Business Services sector, which added 17,800 jobs in a single month. Not to be outdone, the Trade, Transportation, and Utilities sector contributed 10,400 jobs, while the Leisure and Hospitality sector welcomed 3,700 new jobs to its ranks.
Digging deeper, the Texas Financial Activities industry is experiencing runaway success, showing a remarkable growth rate of 3.6% year-over-year, smashing the national industry growth rate by a superb 3.0 percentage points. This blazing upward trend highlights not just the resilience of Texas’s economy but also the inviting business climate booming across the region.
