Big News for Buda: US Foods Announces Major Expansion with $120 Million Investment and New Jobs

Big News for Buda: US Foods Announces Major Expansion!

Hey Buda residents! Exciting news is brewing just south of Austin. The food distribution giant, US Foods Holding Corp., has officially unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its Buda facility, which is located at 2150 Firecracker Drive. Get ready for a whopping 120 million dollars investment that promises not only to boost the local economy but also create new jobs!

What’s Cooking?

So, what exactly does this expansion mean for our little town? Well, US Foods is set to add at least 170,000 square feet to their current facility, which is already an impressive 290,000 square feet. When all is said and done, they’ll have nearly 473,000 square feet of space! This major upgrade will allow them to enhance their warehouse and fleet operations. Talk about a growth spurt!

Currently employing over 350 people, US Foods is looking to create at least 165 new jobs, with an average salary around 74,000 dollars. That’s right, high-paying jobs are on the horizon, and we can all agree that’s fantastic news!

Incentives Worth Noticing

In order to make this expansion feasible, local and state governments have rolled up their sleeves and negotiated an impressive 3 million dollars in incentives. The city of Buda has approved approximately 1.5 million dollars for the project, while Hays County is chipping in 500,000 dollars. And don’t forget about Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who’s also got US Foods’ back with a cool 1 million dollars from the Texas Enterprise Fund!

This all comes down to smart economic strategy, with local officials noting that US Foods has been weighing multiple locations nationwide. Thanks to Buda’s burgeoning growth potential, they decided to stick around and continue building partnerships in the area.

Community Support and Economic Impact

Area President Taylor McIntyre expressed their gratitude for the backing from local and state leaders, saying, “Central Texas is a critical part of our distribution footprint, and we’ve been proud to do business here since we opened our Buda warehouse in 2011.” It’s clear that US Foods recognizes the importance of investing in our community!

In a recent statement, Governor Abbott discussed how this investment showcases the strength of Texas’ economy, adding, “I look forward to seeing continued success for US Foods as we work together to build a bigger, better Texas for all.” It’s uplifting to see local and state leaders rallying together to support job creation and economic growth.

What’s Next for Buda?

As part of the expansion plan, US Foods is set to make those improvements and get everything up and running by January 2027. A certificate of occupancy will be a must-have before this venture can fully take off. And there’s a deadline for job creation too! By 2026, at least 102 jobs need to be filled.

Buda’s City Manager Micah Grau emphasized the significance of this expansion, calling it a “huge game-changer” for the community. He mentioned that this development could help keep our property taxes lower, which is always a welcome relief for residents. Mayor Grau and other local officials see this as a win-win situation—more jobs, more investments, and, of course, more economic stability.

A Bright Future Ahead

With Buda’s population just over 16,000, the addition of high-quality jobs and a larger distribution center marks a definitive win for our local economy. As we look around, it’s evident that Buda is transforming into a hub for manufacturing and food distribution, with recent additions like the electric vehicle supplier Futronic USA Inc. joining us as well.

So, keep an eye on the horizon, Buda! We’re on the cusp of some significant changes that promise to enhance our community and create new possibilities for residents. Who knew that expansion could be this exciting? Here’s to a brighter, better future for all of us!
