A Weekend of Celebrations: Art, Music, and Seafood Festival in Austin to Mark the End of April
Friday, April 26th – Houston’s SVPER Ordinary Hosts Austin Psych Fest
The weekend commenced with Houston’s renowned underground gallery, SVPER Ordinary, hosting the return of Austin Psych Fest to commemorate its 15th anniversary. This three-day lineup from Friday to Sunday featured an eclectic mix of dream pop, indie rock, and psych rock.
Under the starry night and among oak trees, The Far Out Lounge formed the perfect backdrop for the festival. The venue was adorned with the stunning liquid light visuals by famed video artists Mad Alchemy, TV Eye, and drip//cuts.
Experience seekers enjoyed a new visual experience from festival founders, The Black Angels, in collaboration with TV Eye. More additions to the lineup were eagerly anticipated.
SAINT MOTEL’s Experiential Concert at Stable Hall
Just after dusk, Stable Hall heralded a unique musical performance by SAINT MOTEL. The band, founded by film-school classmates vocalist A/J Jackson and guitarist Aaron Sharp, has a shared love for obscurist cinema and alt-pop
.
The band debuted with their album “ForPlay” in 2009 and quickly garnered a huge underground fan base. Their “experiential concerts” themed around Zombie Prom and Judgment Day quickly fuelled their rise to fame.
Saturday, April 27th — Eeyore’s Birthday Celebration and a Groovy Night with MK
Saturday kicked off at Waterloo Park with the annual Eeyore’s Birthday Celebration. An event held as a fundraiser for the Austin community witnessed fandom for Eeyore, Winnie the Pooh’s emotive donkey friend.
Late evening, The Concourse Project welcomed record producer and groove master MK back to Austin. MK is known for his unique style and the night was marked by his groove-filled melodies and dance beats.
Sunday, April 28th — Seafood Fiesta and Baseball at Barton Creek Square
The final day of the weekend began at Barton Creek Square with the ATX Food Truck Festival. The Seafood & Crawfish edition of the festival brought 15 different food vendors offering the finest seafood delicacies. An exploration of over 20 vendors at the festival promised a journey into sea-food culture for the attendees.
The day culminated with the exciting baseball game of Round Rock Express Vs. Salt Lake Bees at Dell Diamond. Fans of the sport were in for a treat as the baseball arena transformed into a royal palace for a day with complimentary photo opportunities with the Ice Queen & Princess, Mermaid Princess, and Island Princess.
The culturally enriched weekend brought together an art and music festival, a quirky birthday celebration, a food fest, and a high-spirited baseball game. It was a clear reflection of Austin’s vibrant community – one that celebrates diversity and creativity.
