Driftwood, Texas, is buzzing with excitement as a new restaurant called Whiskey Ridge prepares to open its doors just in time for Thanksgiving. This latest venture comes from the well-known restaurant group that created popular sports bars Cover 2 and Cover 3. The founders, Katie and Doug Young, along with partners Matt and Kathy Dodson, are eager to bring a fresh taste to the Texas Hill Country.
Katie Young shared that this opening is somewhat of a homecoming for her and Doug, both alumni of Texas State University. They have always had a soft spot for the smaller town feel of a restaurant. “The community has been so kind and welcoming,” Katie said, highlighting the excitement from local residents eager for new dining options.
Unlike the high-energy atmosphere of Cover 2 and Cover 3, Whiskey Ridge promises a more relaxed and unique dining experience. “It’s totally different,” Katie explained. “It will have a very unique and Texas-forward menu.” To lead this new culinary adventure, they have appointed Executive Chef Steve Warner, a seasoned chef and Central Texas native with over 20 years of experience at well-known restaurants in the area.
Guests at Whiskey Ridge will indulge in a menu filled with classic Texas flavors. Signature dishes will include chicken fried steak made from hand-cut ribeye and served with rich gravy, deviled eggs, a Double Trouble Wagyu Burger, and crispy fried oysters. The menu is designed to highlight fresh, local ingredients, featuring meat from R-C Ranch, Gulf-found seafood, and locally-sourced chili and pecans. “It’s a lot of Texas ingredients, and we are taking those staples and putting our little spin on them,” Doug said, showcasing their commitment to using local produce.
In addition to the food, Whiskey Ridge will offer a selection of rare and small-batch Texas spirits, including whiskey and rye. The drink menu is being crafted by Jimmy Joe Zumwalt, an operating partner from Cover 2 and Cover 3, ensuring that the beverage selection will be as impressive as the food.
The restaurant will feature both indoor and outdoor seating, adorned with Texas-centric art, hand-painted murals, and whiskey barrels sourced from local distilleries. For those looking to host events, the Ranger Room can accommodate approximately 40 guests for private dinners. Additionally, a spacious covered porch will be available for more than 70 people to enjoy a cocktail while savoring fresh, local dishes.
Whiskey Ridge will be located at 8750 W Ranch Road 150, Building 300, Driftwood, TX 78619, making it easily accessible for those in the area and beyond. With the promise of delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere, this new restaurant is poised to become a community favorite as Driftwood residents eagerly anticipate its grand opening.
