The series had its pilot episode back on October 17, 1974, featuring the legendary Nelson and his family. The series was taped at Studio 6A in the University of Texas at Austin’s Communications Building B for its first 36 seasons. Later, its operation base shifted to Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater after the show held its first taping at that studio on February 26, 2011.
