Austin is buzzing with excitement as a new office development takes shape in the east side of the city. Located at the corner of East Seventh Street and Pedernales Street, the upcoming project is named WORKBENCH and is spearheaded by three dynamic women entrepreneurs.
The trio leading this initiative includes Jennifer Seay, Shawna Sieck, and DeLea Becker. Each brings unique expertise to the table, representing diverse sectors within the business world. Seay is the founder of Art + Artisans, an art consulting firm that specializes in curating art for real estate developers. Sieck has established herself as an owner of Legacy Lighting, a firm that represents lighting manufacturers. Becker, with a wealth of experience in east Austin real estate, is the founder of Beck-Reit Commercial Real Estate and has been a driving force in the industry for 25 years.
WORKBENCH is not just another office building; it is a clear message of support for women in business. The developers are dedicated to creating spaces where women can thrive. Becker explained, “We are going to have the conference room filled with events, events that are focused on women. We want you to learn.” She emphasized their intent to share their knowledge and experiences about the project, covering everything from financing to development strategies.
This effort comes at a crucial time when women represent a mere 3% of commercial real estate ownership worldwide. According to a 2020 report by the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network, women made up nearly 37% of commercial real estate professionals, a figure that has barely changed in the last 15 years. By establishing WORKBENCH, Seay, Sieck, and Becker want to shift that statistic and inspire more women to get involved in the industry.
Jennifer Seay shared her thoughts, stating, “It just gives light to what women can accomplish in commercial real estate when they’re willing to work hard and get out there.” With the goal of supporting other women, the founders hope WORKBENCH will serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and, ultimately, empowerment.
Sieck further underscored the vision of WORKBENCH, saying, “That’s what this is going to symbolize. Come here. We’ll help you. We’ll help you be what you want to be.” This commitment to guidance and mentorship is a touchstone of the project and aims to foster a nurturing environment for aspiring women entrepreneurs.
The four-story office will not only include retail spaces but also restaurants, making it a vibrant addition to the community. With the founders’ combined experience and passion for real estate, they plan to create a welcoming environment where idea sharing and partnership flourish.
As construction progresses, anticipation builds in Austin about what WORKBENCH can offer. Many are eager to see how this development will pave the way for future generations of women in business, encouraging them to take bold steps in their careers and dreams.
This development highlights not only the talents of women in the commercial real estate sector but also their commitment to uplifting one another. As they prepare to open the doors of WORKBENCH, the message is clear: there is a bright future ahead for women in business in Austin.
